Death by Questions
Below are two zip folders containing a HUGE number of questions for every topic with mark scheme. The 'Booklets' folder also provides some condensed notes in addition to questions. These are all from the OLD AQA spec but still very relevant. Rinse them out :-)

Text book answers
This link takes you to the Pearson site with the answers to the questions in the Pearson Text book (Curtis, Murgatroyd and Scott)....No excuses now...you should be doing them all and self assessing as part of revision
http://www.pearsonschoolsandfecolleges.co.uk/Secondary/Science/16Biology/Edexcel-A-level-Science-2015/FreeResources/FreeResources.aspx
Don't worry about the bit in the link that says biology...that's because the Pearson bio text book answers are on the same site!

Practical practice questions
The link below takes you to the IAL (international A level) site. The legacy papers 3(AS) and 6(A2) are practical exams so helpful for paper 3 A level revision

Year 13 Homework - due in w/c 6th March to Dave
By the end of this week, both groups will be set;
Questions 10 - 13 on entropy from text book, as started in class. To be handed in for me to mark. Multi-choice questions based on year 1 (AS) material. All students to compete, include those only doing the AS. To be brought to lesson for peer review |

Marcus' work for 13F and 13C Tuesday 28/02/17
Please complete the questions below. You will NEED to read ahead and familiarise yourself with Enthalpy of Solution and Enthalpy of Hydration to make sense of what's going on in some parts. I would like this work handed in next lesson (Thursday 13C and Friday 13F)

13B and 13F XMAS Holiday Homework
TASK 1
Go to www.chemrevise.org --> Click on 'Edexcel Revision Guides' on the navigation bar --> Download/Print 15. Transition Metals
Coming back from xmas we will be studying the reactions of Chromium and those of metals with a +2 and + 3 oxidation state.
TASK 2
Memorise the summary flow chart of Chromium on Page 6. You must know the reagents, products and colours.
TASK 3
Memorise the summary flow charts on page 10 in preparation for our investigative practical on our return to College. You must know the reagents, products and... colours would be useful too although we will hopefully learn these as we conduct our practical.
This accounts for Topic 15A.22, 15A.23 and 15A.24 in the specification.

13F - Wednesday 30th November - Rates of Reaction - Chemical Kinetics
Watch each of these videos and make notes on what is meant by the order of a reaction, a rate equation, the rate constants and how a graph of concentration against time can be used to determine order.
Marcus' Cover Work for 25/11/16
I'm really sorry folks but I'm being beaten by man-flu so won't be in today. In preparation for next Thursday's lesson (1 week) I would like for you to compile notes that cover the following section of the specification:
14. understand how disproportionation reactions relate to standard electrode potentials
15. understand the application of electrode potentials to storage cells
16. understand that the energy released on the reaction of a fuel with oxygen is utilised in a fuel cell to generate a voltage. Knowledge that methanol and other hydrogen-rich fuels are used in fuel cells is expected.
17. know the electrode reactions that occur in a hydrogen-oxygen fuel cell Knowledge of hydrogen-oxygen fuel cells with both acidic and alkaline electrolytes is expected.
Come next Thursday, I will be giving you a Pop Quiz on Fuel Cells. You must be able to draw diagrams to represent fuel cells in both acid and alkali conditions and be able to write equations for the reactions that occur at each terminal. It is also important that you know the role played by the membranes in these cells.
Use Chemguide, chemrevise, machemguy, khan academy and any other resources (e.g. revision guide) to help you in this endeavour.
Have a fab weekend.

13 C Acids Homework - for Dave, to be handed in Thursday 27th
Lots of the past paper questions have bits on buffer solutions - so we cannot do them yet, as we've not covered buffers (feel free to go ahead and do some prior reading). However these 2 questions do not have stuff on buffers so are good to try. A couple of bits of recall will need looking up - I expect you to do this!! However most of the questions will test your ability to put into practice stuff learnt on pH and Ka. They are not necessarily as straight forward as the examples in class, but remember the questions at A level will challenge you to apply ideas, not just repeat ideas, so this is fair enough....

More Equilibrium Questions...as requested
These are for both groups to hand in first lesson after half term....note 13C you do NOT now have to hand these in on Thursday
I'll post some more questions for 13C to do on acids/pH/Ka imminently, so watch this space |
